At Global Satria, we’re striving to set new standards for the industry – better quality, larger prawns, tastier products, cleaner effluents, better disease control, less fossil fuel consumption and better CO2 absorption. We believe in being Market-driven, Science-driven and Information-driven but not at the expense of the environment. We are based around the Malaysian town of Tawau on the island of Borneo far from sources of industrial pollution. A professional team of 35 aquaculture, molecular and marine biologists monitor and control the 400 production ponds while developing new and better methods of growing the prawns and fishes under their care.
Aquaculture helps provide much needed employment in developing countries. In between 1990-2004, an additional 7 million Asians directly or indirectly derived their livelihood from aquaculture – an increase of 500,000 annually. In 2005, the top 6 farmed crustaceans (prawns and crabs) were worth USD 13.26 billion and have been catching up in value to the top 6 farmed fishes at USD18.20 billion.
